About Dance Power - our 30 year history
Celebrating 3 decades of dance
Dance Power is a 100% Canadian company based in Edmonton, Alberta, and is one of the longest running dance competitions in North America.
We offer fun and friendly competitions that run smoothly and on-time— our events are stress-free for the dancers, parents, studio owners and teachers.
We believe in creating an environment to help dancers "show us their best".
We have had the privilege of seeing thousands of dancers grow up on our stages, and our alumni dancers include: Stacey Tookey, Lisa La Touche, Zac Vran, Kieran Bohay, Devin Jamieson, Michelle Dawley, Tate McCrae, Taylor & Reese Hatala and many others. We have watched dance students mature into dance professionals — teachers, choreographers, studio owners, and professional dancers. In our 30 years we have witnessed the incredible growth of the dance industry and the diversity in genres it now enjoys.
We run seasonal competitions in British Columbia and Alberta, where we put more than $100,000 back into to the dance community through cash prizes, scholarships and awards.
While Dance Power has included competitions in Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario in the past seasons, we have a history of creating memorable destination events and experiences. For over a decade we presented the Western Canadian Finals, first in Banff, and then Summerfest in Kelowna. In 2004 and 2006, Dance Power teamed up with Triple Threat Dance Conventions (our sister company since 2018) to host Hawaii Dance Experience in Maui, and Hawaii Dance Experience II in Honolulu. We celebrated our 20th Anniversary, with Dance Power Vegas at the Mandalay Bay Resort— a mammoth event that ran two stages 14 hours a day for six days, and included a reception for more than 1200 dancers and families, and a gala evening with over 750 attendees.
During the COVID pandemic we held virtual events with "live awards" from our head office in Edmonton.
The 2022 season saw the launch of a new concept in dance competitions for the first time in Canada - POWER TO THE MAX - a group focussed competitive event. Our first Power to the Max event was held at the Westin Resort & Spa, Whistler. In addition, we introduced "POWER SURGE" to Western Canada - a new way of recognizing talent at the events - giving immediate feedback to the dancers and their choreographers from our judges. For the 2023 season we are expanding "POWER SURGE" to all Dance Power and Power to the Max events.
Supporting children's charities is one of our priorities, and these have included: Ronald McDonald House, Breakfast for Learning, and Angels Anonymous Connection.
STACEY TOOKEY TALKS DANCE POWER- We have been lucky to play a part in so many dancers lives. Stacey shares her feelings about growing up with us.
